Spring is Here and so are the CATERILLARS!

April 22, 2013

Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Nursery Classroom is buzzing with new things. And we are celebrating Earth Day on Monday!
On Friday we received our five tiny caterpillars for the nursery to experience the wonderful gift of the metamorphosis of the caterpillar into a butterfly. The children will learn about the life cycle of a butterfly including the ever popular story by Eric Carle “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. Also in the glass jars on the window ledge, some of the flowers are beginning to sprout!

As many of you might have been a little bit confused about the baskets for the Culture Fest event. The Nursery usually does something different. I apologize for the miscommunication and confusion!! I try to make our basket as easy as possible for the parents.
So, starting Monday, April 22nd, If you would like to contribute to our “All Things Clifford” basket, we are asking for a small donation of only $5.00 — donations will be collected by FRIDAY, MAY 10th. Your donation will go towards creating a beautiful basket - hand selected by the associates at the Scholastic’s Store in Manhattan since they have the largest selection of Clifford books and related items and some Special Editions that are not sold anywhere.

AND… The committee for the Culture Fest event is asking for “2” Parent Volunteers to represent the Nursery Classroom. A SIGN-UP SHEET will be available if you are interested and I will submit your name to the committee and they will contact you.

Other reminders:
1. Graduation money is due next WEDNESDAY, MAY 1st NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, MAY 3rd.
2. Pajama Day will be FRIDAY, MAY 3rd, $2.00 — supports the Nursery Outdoor space.
3. GYM is on FRIDAY — PLEASE WEAR SNEAKERS — NO SCHOOL SHOES!
4. Please ARRIVE BEFORE 8:15AM — Your child misses out on the Morning Arrival work.

The April Scholastic Book Club Flyers are DUE, FRIDAY, APRIL 26th.

If you have any questions or concerns – email us at mevans@olcacademy.net.

Have a nice week, Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Mendez

How the month of February has gone so quickly! March has finally arrived and the signs of spring approaching! The Nursery classroom has been “ramping it up” in preparation for Pre-Kindergarten!
So we ask PARENTS as YOUR daily HOMEWORK to work with your child in the following ways:
1) Your child should be able to put on their own coat WITHOUT assistance
2) Your child should be able to ROLL their own rest mat by themselves

This month we are celebrating four students who are turning 4 years old:
Michael Soverall – March 5th
Benjamin Urbano – March 8th
Aaron David – March 9th

February 11, 2013

Dear OLCA Nursery Parents,
The shortest month of the year is February and a month of many holidays! We started February when Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, signaling an EARLY SPRING… This week we celebrate Ash Wednesday marking the beginning of Lent, leading up to the big holiday of EASTER! Then we celebrate the day of Love on Valentine’s Day! And of course, we get to enjoy a long WINTER BREAK week during President’s Week…

Last week the Nursery Class added another student — lets WELCOME —
SHIVAAYA RAMDIAL to the OLCA Nursery. This brings our class up to 23 students!!

The Nursery class has just completed learning all their COLORS! And starting on MONDAY, they will now begin their LETTERS from A to Z and their NUMBERS from 1 to 10. Each week they will learn two Letters and a Number. The Homework will begin to be more than one page and I stress even more that the children should do THEIR OWN WORK – Which means it DOES NOT HAVE TO BE PERFECT!! Please try NOT to help or sibling help with their homework. This discourages independence, ownership, and their intrinsic value of their work!!
However, we encourage parents to continue to support the class work at home to enhance their learning.

Homework #16(LETTERS) A & B – (NUMBER) #1 – DUE THURSDAY.
1. Trace the Upper-Case Letters (A & B) with a Pencil.
2a. TRACE the “1” with a Pencil.
2b. WRITE “1” on your own using a Pencil.
2c. COLOR the “1” shape with a Crayon.

** Homework turned in AFTER THURSDAY will be considered LATE – unless your child was sick or has an Excused Absence **

If you have any questions or concerns – Always check the OLCA webpage www.olcacademy.net
OR
write us a note and place the note in your child’s folder

Homework #15(Colors) – COLOR REVIEW – DUE THURSDAY.
Color the Juggling Balls, Clown Hat, and Clown Shoes ONLY with the correct color that is Labelled.

** Homework turned in AFTER THURSDAY will be considered LATE – unless your child was sick or has an Excused Absence **

Hi Ms Evans, Happy Thanksgiving to u and your family.

Pls I need a copy of Calebs homework, we are cleaning our home and I feel his homework was discarded by mistake.

    • Maria Lourdes Evans says:

Hi Romane, I will make Caleb another copy for Monday. No problem, he will just have 2 homework’s to hand in on Thursday.
Thank you again, and I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving… I enjoyed mine.

      Mrs. Evans

  • Evelyn Urbano says:

Good evening, Mrs Evans My son Benjamin Urbano does not feel good, he has been two days old with very high fever and I took it to the Dr and its diagnosis is a bronchitis so it is the reason for which it has been missing to its classes. He(She) wanted you know if it is possible to order the Monday task and if it is possible to have copies of the work in the lounge of classes and tasks, I will be very grateful to him
    Evelyn

    • Maria Lourdes Evans says:

Hello Evelyn, I hope Benjamin is doing okay. I know how it feels to have bronchitis! Don’t worry about his homework, bring the homework to school when he is better(he still gets a sticker on the homework chart). I saved the classwork from yesterday(Thursday) and we didn’t do any classwork today(Friday) since it was a half-day. Our lesson for the coming week will be on the Color Yellow. I will put aside his work.
      I hope that helps.
      Warmly, Mrs. Evans

  • Nareeta Monedatt says:

Hi Ms Evans Just want to let you know that Toshani Monedatt will not be in school tomorrow 1/9/13. She has several doctor appointments. She will return to school on Thursday 1/10/13. Thank you.
