Social Studies Homework 10/01/12:

6th Grade: Due on Wednesday. Imagine you are an archaeologist. Write a newspaper article in two paragraphs describing the artifacts you found at the Topper Site. Either draw or print out a picture for the article. Think about: Who are the artifacts from? Where did the artifacts come from? What are the artifacts? Why were these artifacts used. Each paragraph must contain 5-7 sentences. No less! Will be collected!

7th Grade: Due on Wednesday. Create an advertisement. You are an investor in the Virginia Company, and you want to encourage people to move to Virginia. Create an advertisement describing and illustrating the advantages of life in Virginia.

8th Grade: Due on Wednesday. Write a poem on President Lincoln has been shot! Taking the viewpoint of a northerner or southerner, the poem should describe Lincoln’s death. If you like it can be a song instead of a poem.

7th Grade: Write 1-2 paragraphs on what you know about Christopher Columbus. Finish similarities and differences on the Iroquois nations.

 

Dear Parents or Guardians:

It was a pleasure to meet many of you at the Back to School Night. We are going to have a very busy and productive year filled with exciting learning activities and school events. A key part to your child’s success will be dependent upon being in class, ready and willing to give his or her very best during each class session. It is not enough just to show up to class. The child must be in class on time, and be prepared to actively participate in all class activities. The Seventh Grade has all ready started to learn about American History.

The students all ready know that this year is a very important year for high school. The high schools will look very closely at the grades this year. All students must be actively participating in class, completing homework, completing projects, and studying for exams. I expect and do believe that all students will give one hundred percent in the classroom.

It is my belief that positive interaction between teacher and parent strengthens the feeling of support all children need for success in school. My goal is to create an atmosphere of open communication regarding your child’s progress and behavior in school. Feel free to communicate with me if you have to address a particular concern.

I wish your child nothing but success this year. I look forward to having a successful, fun, and exciting year exploring Social Studies and Religion with your child.
