If your child wishes to order CHOCO-GRAMS for their friend/classmate/family member, please emphasize that their order will be DELIVERED ON VALENTINE’S DAY to their friend/classmate/family member. With this list of words, you will find instructions as to how to help your child blend the letters together in order to read the particular words. The children are making great progress in learning to read and it is crucial that they continue to blend words throughout the holiday recess! On Monday, I will be sending home a letter regarding Parent/Teacher Conferences, which will take place on 12/14. Within the letter you will see that I request that you fill out an attached form stating your preference to come and see me either during the afternoon or evening session. Once you have indicated your preference, please select 3 convenient time slots that I can use to schedule your conference. This form MUST be returned to me via your child’s OLCA Communication Folder by FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7TH!!!!!

Once the preference forms are returned on December 7th, I will schedule all of the appointments and confirm your conference time. If you do not return the preference form to me, you will be given an appointment at my convenience!

A few reminders:

• Please return the UN Assembly form by Friday, October 12. Turning in this form ensures that all countries in the backgrounds of every student, teacher, and staff member are represented in our school!
• Please make sure that your child brings a snack every day. This snack should be labeled in a bag with his/her name.
• Lunch Orders for a particular week are always due the Friday before that week - orders placed after that time will not be accepted! If you are not ordering lunch for your child, please provide them with lunch!
• There are several children who have not brought in a change of clothes. It is crucial for us to have this in the case of an accident! Please send a change of clothes with your child as soon as possible!
• Please make sure that your child comes to school in full uniform. Shirts should be tucked in, sweaters that are used in school should only be the ones purchased for OLCA, children should only wear post earrings, acceptable accessories (see the Family Handbook as to what is allowed) MUST MATCH the OLCA uniform, and the Gym uniform is to be worn on gym days only(Wednesdays).
• Several children have yet to return their Emergency Cards and the Parental Survey. Please return these forms to me immediately
• Please check your child’s OLCA Folder on a daily basis as important information is sent through this folder on a frequent basis!

Dear Parents,

It’s amazing that we are already in the month of October! The children are becoming accustomed to our daily routines and are definitely enjoying being in school. This past week, we began our SuperKids Reading Program and we are enjoying every minute of it! If you have not done so already, please ask your child about Cass (their new friend), the letter “C” (/k/ sound) and the songs that we sing in class each day.

In this coming week, we will begin our first full unit in Mathematics: sorting. In this unit, the children will sort objects by likeness, identify what makes an object different, sort objects based on color, shape, and size and solve problems by using logical reasoning. In our SuperKids program, the children will meet a new SuperKid and a new letter….these will be a surprise that will be revealed by the middle of the week!

I would like to take this opportunity to explain that your child is receiving (and generally will continue to do so) Homework from Monday-Thursday. This homework will typically involve two activities: one based on the SuperKids, the other based on the Math lesson for the day. In regards to the SuperKids Homework, what the child needs to do is listed at the bottom left hand side of the activity.

Please ensure that your child completes his/her homework independently, to the best of their ability! If you are noticing that your child is having difficulties, please let me know about this immediately! When your child is completing their homework, please make sure that they write their name on each Homework assignment - this easily allows me to know that they completed the assignment. All Homework must also be signed!

As I have expressed previously, the OLCA e-mail accounts for the faculty/administration have been set up and are running! Shall you have any questions and wish to communicate with me via e-mail, please feel free to do so at: aestevez@olcacademy.net

Before I conclude this note, I would like to provide you with some other important information:

• Beginning on Monday, I will be sending home a “How did I do in school today?” chart. Please make sure that you initial your signature, indicating that you have seen the chart for the day.
• Please make sure that your child brings a snack every day. This snack should be labeled in a bag with his/her name.
• Lunch Orders for a particular week are always due the Friday before that week - orders placed after that time will not be accepted! If you are not ordering lunch for your child, please provide them with lunch!
• There are several children who have not brought in a change of clothes. It is crucial for us to have this in the case of an accident! Please send a change of clothes with your child as soon as possible!
  
• Lending Library - Many of the children have expressed an interest in borrowing books from the classroom library. Therefore, I have decided to establish a lending library system where the children will go “book shopping” on a weekly basis — this will begin shortly! When they go book shopping, they will be able to borrow at least 5 books for the week. I am so glad that the children are demonstrating a love of reading!
• Please make sure that your child comes to school in full uniform. Shirts should be tucked in, sweaters that are used in school should only be the ones purchased for OLCA, children should only wear post earrings, acceptable accessories (see the Family Handbook as to what is allowed) MUST MATCH the OLCA uniform, and the Gym uniform is only to be worn on gym days (Wednesdays).
• I am in the process of setting up a Scholastic book club account where you will be able to purchase books for your children. I will notify you about this once I set up the account!

Reminders:

• Gym uniforms for the early childhood grades are available for purchase. If you have not done so already, please make sure that you purchase a Gym uniform for your child. They need to have this uniform for Wednesday!
• Only post earrings are allowed in school!
• If you have not done so already, please send in a change of clothes for your child in case they have an accident!
  
• Please continue to send snacks and lunches LABELED with your child’s name!

Alphabet Recognition Worksheet - Throughout this week, the children will be assessed on the skills that they need to have in order to succeed in our SuperKids program. The worksheet being provided tonight will help enhance on of these skills -alphabet recognition.

Math Worksheet - Students will apply what they learned about the concept of size (big/small).

Please make sure that you sign your child’s homework every night. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know immediately!

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Kindergarten web page! On this page, you will be able to see the homework assignments that are given as well as important information that pertains to our class.

It was a pleasure meeting and speaking to all of you on Thursday’s Back to School Night! It is my hope that we can continue to have meaningful conversations throughout the year so that we can not only foster a love for learning in your children, but we can also ensure that they are ready for the world of tomorrow!

Attached you will find the Kindergarten handbook that was distributed to you on Back to School Night. Please note that the attached handbook now includes some of the revisions that were discussed on Thursday (i.e.: Lunch and Special Subjects).

• As of this date, we have not received Emergency Cards from several children. Please make every effort to complete and return this form ASAP! It is crucial for us to have this information on file for your child!
• As I explained on Thursday, the parent survey that you received has helped me to understand your child and tailor experiences around their needs. If you have been unable to complete the survey, please complete and return it ASAP!
• I have sent home a note that includes the Pledge of Allegiance, the OLCA Mission Statement, the Hail Mary and the Our Father. Although we practice these each day as part of our Morning Routines, please practice these with your child as often as you can!
• We will be having Gym on Wednesdays. Please make sure that your child comes to school with their Gym uniform. Refer to the OLCA Family Handbook for specific details of how the uniform should be worn to school.
• We will be having Spanish/Art on Fridays.
• Technology classes will begin shortly!
