Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are in the busiest stretch of the school year, and we have much to accomplish between now and Easter Recess! This newsletter includes information about an exciting new technology program that is being offered to a handful of Catholic academies, including OLCA. It also includes news about upcoming events and calendar changes, and important policy reminders and updates.
OLCA iPad Initiative
We have a unique opportunity to provide every OLCA student with a data-enabled iPad for use at the academy for only $22 per family. This opportunity is being provided to us by DeSales Media, the company that has also provided significant infrastructure upgrades, as well as Mathletics and Learn 360, at no cost for OLCA families. For $22, families will get a print subscription to The Tablet, which has often featured our students in their news coverage.
We are asking all families to visit www.thetablet.org/TechGrant to purchase their subscription. Remember to select Our Lady’s Catholic Academy from the list of schools. If we can get all of our families to complete this process in the next two weeks, we can have the iPads on site well before the school year is out and put them to immediate use in our classrooms. Online payments are preferred, but if you do not have the ability to pay that way, please send payment to the school and we will complete the process on your behalf.
Upcoming Events and Calendar Changes
Ash Wednesday Mass
Wednesday, March 6 at 10 AM
St Teresa of Avila Church
Grades N-8 will attend mass, where all students and staff will receive ashes as we begin the most holy season of the Catholic faith. All family members are welcome to attend.
Home Academy Association Meeting
Thursday, March 14
6:00 PM for Grade 8 Families
6:30 PM for General Meeting of All Families
The work of our Home Academy Association continues, with the next meetings scheduled for Thursday, March 14. Before the general meeting commences at 6:30 PM, there will be a meeting for Grade 8 families at 6:00 PM to discuss graduation activities. We hope to see many families there, and we will send out materials via parent alert.
Second Trimester Report Card Conferences
Friday, March 22
3 PM – 7 PM
Report Cards will be distributed on Friday, March 22. Students in Grades 3-8 are required to attend the conference with their parents. Please note that to receive cards, families must have paid eight tuition payments, August 2018 to March 2019.
Policy Reminders and Updates
We are currently preparing our second graders for First Penance and our third graders for First Communion. The office will be reaching out to families in these grades to ensure that a Baptism Certificate is on file.
If you would like your child to be baptized in the Catholic faith, please call the office and we will help you begin the process. We are happy to help adults in your family join our faith as well! Some of the happiest moments at OLCA over the years have been when entire families have joined the faith together.
After School Program
A reminder that the After School Program is pre-paid. While we allow for a grace period when occasionally needed, we cannot allow students to remain enrolled in After School without a zero balance being maintained on a weekly basis. For After School to remain a viable program, all fees must be collected on time.
Only parents may order or drop off food to be delivered for lunch. Students may not order lunch using the school phone or their personal phone. Any student who is without lunch may buy school lunch that day. Uber Eats orders placed by parents are allowed, but please be mindful of delivery times so that they arrive at the beginning of lunch for Grades 5-8 (11:00) and Grades 1-4 (11:55.)
All uniforms should be complete at this time of year. Students with incomplete uniforms lose dress down privileges. If you are having difficulty with obtaining part of the uniform for any reason, please contact the office. Many parents have generously donated uniforms and we have them to share with families who need them.
Belts are rented in the office daily as well. Please also make sure shirts are always tucked in. Nail polish and lip gloss are still not permitted, and the only colored braiding allowed is the gold cording that surrounds naturally colored braids.
Chewing gum is not permitted on site at Our Lady’s Catholic Academy and results in an Incident Report. Please encourage your child to use mints as an alternative, and make sure that they are not bringing gum to school with them.
As always, thank you for the sacrifices that you make to provide a high quality Catholic education for your child, and for the privilege of you choosing Our Lady’s Catholic Academy as the place for them to receive it.
Sincerely in Christ,
Kevin John Coyne Debra Eisenbraun
