New School Hours
Grades 6-8: 8:00 AM ? 3:00 PM | Grades N-5: 8:15 AM ? 3:15 PM
Beginning this year, Grades 6-8 will have a slightly different schedule from Grades N-5. This will allow our older students to go directly to the classroom after dropping off their younger siblings, and also ensure that they are there to meet them at the end of the day. Beginning on the second day of school ? Thursday, September 7 ? Grades 6-8 will go directly to their homeroom classrooms, where their homeroom teacher will lead them in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance at 8:00 AM.
First Day of School
Grades K-8: Wednesday, September 6
Grades N & PK: Thursday, September 7
All classes in grades K-8 will gather in the school auditorium on the first day of school for prayers at 8:15 AM. On the first day for Grades N & PK, parents may bring their children directly to the Early Childhood Center on our lower level by 8:15. N & PK parents are invited to stay for the first few minutes of the day to help their children transition to the classroom.
The first three days of school are Half Day schedule, as noted on the calendar. Grades 6-8 will dismiss at 11:30 AM, and Grades N-5 at 11:45 AM.
Early Drop-Off Program
6 AM ? 8 AM
(Begins Wednesday, September 6)
After School Program
3:15 PM ? 7 PM
(Begins Monday, September 11)
To better meet the needs of our parents, the hours of both our Early Drop-Off Program and After School Program have been extended. The Early Drop-Off Program now begins at 6:00 AM and remains a free program. Please bring your children to the 130th Street Auditorium entrance. This program is available every day that our school is open this year, including the first day.
Our After School Program now ends at 7 PM. As always, it includes a snack and homework help. Registration forms will be provided on the first day of school in your childs OLCA folder. This is a prepaid program, and you may pay on a monthly, weekly, or daily basis, whichever is most convenient for you.
Registration & Scholarship Update
This fall, we will welcome 110 new students to OLCA! Because the registration numbers are so high, we have limited seating available for September. If you are a returning family and have not re-registered yet, please do so as soon as possible. We cannot guarantee as seat for your child will still be available as the first day approaches. Returning students must have a zero balance from 2016-2017 to register for the upcoming year.
So far, OLCA has received $170,000 in scholarships from Futures in Education. If you havent yet applied for the scholarship, please do so as soon as possible at futuresineducation.org . You will be asked for a code to continue your application, which you can receive by calling either campus office. This code is unique to your application and isnt created until you apply.
We are working with the Department of Transportation to establish new bus routes for our students, particularly those who previously attended the Rockaway Boulevard campus. You can request a stop directly by e-mailing Jillian Roberts, who can be reached at email@example.com . It takes 2-3 days to get a stop approved and a student assigned to it, so please contact Ms. Roberts as soon as possible so your child can take the bus on the first day of school. You can also request a Metrocard for children entering Grades 7 & 8.
This year, the material fee covers basic classroom supplies, so there are no supply lists for the 2017-2018 school year. Parents are only required to supply a book bag and a lunch box for Grades N-8, and a change of clothes for Grades N-1. Everything else will be provided during the first week of school.
Accelerated Program (Grades 6-8)
So far, 77 students have been accepted into at least one of our Accelerated classes for September. A handful of seats are still available. If you are interested in your child being considered, please e-mail Michelle Beadle at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible. Acceptance letters for the program are included with your familys back to school packet, which will be mailed out on Friday, July 28.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our school office. You can also reach us directly at email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org . We look forward to another wonderful year!
Sincerely in Christ,
Mr. Kevin John Coyne Mrs. Debra Eisenbraun
