Important Announcement: PRE – K2 Step-Up Virtual Ceremony will take on June 17, 2020, at 1.00 pm.

Daily morning Routine – Use a website to reinforce days of the week, months of the year, weather check-up, children will copy a daily journal which includes name and date for each day of the week, sentence to describe the daily weather condition, and a sentence to say how they feel every day. Be sure to include some form of daily exercise for the kids. Monday -Thursday copy word families, read, write, and draw your own -ox, -ut, -ap, -ip, and -ig words. Use the new sight word, (have) it in a sentence. Use some of the ”word families” and previously taught sight words in simple telling sentences as well.

ELA- Look at pictures and write simple telling sentences about the pictures. Write sentences correctly by using previous knowledge- begin sentences with capital letters and use a period at the end of each sentence. Name pictures and Identify beginning sounds and circle letters that stand for each sound. Review color words- red- blue-and-green, use picture clues to write and answer specific questions about the color of a hat. Use a word box to write simple sentences and draw pictures to illustrate each sentence.

MATH – New math topic -Subtraction

Count how many in all, next, write how many are taken away, then, how many are left. Review numbers 1- 20, order numbers 1-20, fill in missing numbers to show before, after in the middle. Color to show equal/same number, more than less than.

Specials :Parents will be invited to videotape their children reading simple sentences and share videos on google classroom. ( No pressure, this will be optional) They can also share special moments as well. Show and tell will be on Friday may 29th at 11.30 am. Children can dress in their pajamas and “show and tell”  their favorite stuffed animals.

Morning routine check-up- Children will use a website to go over Calendar, Weather, Months of the year, and days of the week. Copy morning message which includes their name, the name for each day, “an“ family words, and new sight words for the week. Write simple sentences using family and sight words. Follow rules and practice writing simple telling sentences by starting the sentence with a capital letter, remember to write a period at the end of each telling sentence, and include a complete thought in a sentence to make sense. On Google Meets 5/18 -Teacher will model a lesson on what is a sentence, identify simple telling sentences and review the rules to follow( it starts with a capital letter and ends with a marking sign) ; (you need to write a period at the end of each telling sentence).

Google classroom classwork/Homework

ELA: Identify and read family words, trace and write family words, identify rhyming words, circle the mistakes in sentences, correct and rewrite sentences by rewriting with capital letters, and including the marking sign at the end. Identify sentences that are complete and copy. Write sentences that make a little story by choosing the correct word to complete the story.

MATH: Identify groups, write numbers, add one more to each group and write the new number; add two more and write new numbers; solve simple addition sentences, count carefully, compare groups and circle to show more and less; circle objects in a row to show one less and one more. 

Specials: Watch a video on Google classroom Friday 5/22“ The giving tree ” by Shel Silverstein “ and draw a picture showing a favorite event from the story. Discuss your favorite part, think about a caption for your part, and have your parents write it on scrap paper. You can copy the caption on your drawing sheet provided. We will discuss the story on Friday on Google Meets.

Show and Tell”  will be replaced this week with “Crazy Hat Day” on Friday 5/22, you can use items around the house to decorate your crazy hat. Be creative, children will wear their crazy hats on google meets, this should be fun and a great conversation piece as well.

We will meet on Google Meets Monday, May 11th ( Lesson on rhyming words) and Friday, May 15th (show and tell) at 11.30 am for both days.

Morning assignments– Parents will use a website to review the following with kids: Calendar, Weather check-up, Months of the year, Days of the week, and name for each day. Children will sign their names, write the name for the day, and solve a few addition sentences. Copy “at” family words daily and write sight words (the) as well. Submit morning work on google classroom daily.

ELA- Phonemic Awareness Activity sheets – identify rhyming words, draw lines to show pictures/ rhyme match, color to show understanding of rhyming words, illustrate pictures to show pairs of rhyming words, trace rhyming words such as( tall fall small hall call ball) ( cake rake fake bake make take lake flake) ( at fat mat sat hat bat flat cat ) Review letters of the alphabet- fill in missing letters on activity sheets.

 

MATH- Activity sheets to reinforce addition skills, count and add groups, show work, and complete simple addition sentences such as 2+3=? 4+2=? 3+ 2= ?? + 4=5. Review more and less, equal, and same.

Specials: Introduce new fable for the week, “The boy who cried wolf”, A video will be posted on google classroom for children to watch on Friday, May 15th, and illustrate their favorite part. Share with classmates on google classroom.

Provide taped lessons on Class Dojo: Introduce beginning reading using ‘at ‘ family words. Introduce Beginning to Add. Teach concept/vocabulary/ symbol related to addition, such as joining, combining, bringing together, in all, making more, and, plus sign and equal sign.

Highlights for Cinco de Mayo observance on Tuesday- Children will watch a Cinco de Mayo video in Class dojo and act out a fun song. A suggestion will be made for them to make a Mexican Food with the family-  Quesadillas, each child can make his/ her own quesadilla in celebration of Cinco de Mayo! Procedure: With parents supervision – Give each child a flour tortilla and two slices of American/cheese. Heat a small amount of butter in a hot skillet. Place the Tortilla in the butter and place the cheese in the center. Fold the tortilla over the cheese and turn to brown on the other side. (Quesadillas can be made even more simply by melting cheese-filled tortillas in a microwave oven as well .)

Watch fable “The Ant and the Grasshopper” in Google classroom, illustrate favorite part, and show in google classroom.

ELA- Identify The – at Family, trace/ write words at family words. Read and write the words and draw on their own – at words. They will use letters(consonants) to fill in blanks for the “at” word family. Match picture and word in “at” family. Identify the sight word “the” and color/ decorate. Trace, write, color, cut, and glue the letters in the correct order to spell the sight word “the”.Use picture clues to make “at “ word Family ladder by changing the first letter to make a new word. Identify and circle “at” family words from the reading sheet.

MATH- Add together the objects and write down how many there are! Count. Write. Add. Use graphs to compare, Trace, and write number names, Draw lines to match the numbers to the number words.

Specials: Children will watch a Fable video and illustrate their favorite part on a frame provided in google classroom. “ The tortoise and the Hare”.

We will begin Show and Tell on Friday via Google Meets. Children will take turns to show and Tell, and reconnect with peers and teacher

The teacher will post taped videos of lessons on Class Dojo (alphabet review, counting to 1-30, Tallying and graphing)

We will replace Zoom with Google meets, Mondays, and Fridays! Our First Try will be on Monday, April 27th @ 10.30 am.

Pre- K 2 week 4/20- 4/24

                Welcome back everyone, I hope you had a wonderful Easter despite the fact that we have to continue to practice Social Distancing and resume to Remote learning. I am aware that this new measure of Learning and communicating can be overwhelming. However, since we do not have concrete answers as to how and when life will return to some form of normalcy, we will just have to move forward and pray that this nightmare will disappear as fast as it appeared. Let us continue to support our kids emotionally and provide the tools and guidance that they will need to learn from home and me. I miss you all and I just can’t wait to be back in the classroom with my kids

Plan for the week:

  • Morning routine- Monday – Friday. Use a website to review Days of the week, Calender/ Weather checkup. On a separate paper sign in by writing first/last name, write the name for each day using the sentence Today is……….., Follow and do some simple exercise routines via the website. introduce New letter of the week Yy, Copy the words that begin with the initial Yy sound!    1. yell 2.  yes 3.  yellow 4. yesterday 5. yacht 6. yo-yo 7. yawn 8. yam 9. you 10. your 11. yummy. Copy 2 words per day, by the end of the week you should have copied all the words. Please do not teach spelling!  You can add to the list as well.
  • Google classroom Classwork/Homework Assignments, ELA and MATH, SS and Religion.
  • Introduce New Letter of the week(Yy) Trace, match lowercase and uppercase forms using visual discrimination, identify like letters(Yy), follow simple directions to trace along a path using fine motor skills, review colors and practice letter formation.
  • In Math, they will count/compare numbers1-10, Recognize numbers and trace and write to show the amount., review tallying skills and write and match numbers with numerals, identify groups of more and less.
  • SS- Observe and celebrate Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22nd. Earth Day video will be posted in the class dojo for kids to watch and enjoy. A taped lesson on Earth Day facts done by the teacher will be posted as well. We will explore Earth Day vocabulary- Recycle, Reduce, Reuse, Donate, Pollution, Endangered species, habitat, etc. Children will also make an Earth Day poster/video and share it in google classroom. They have to include in their oral presentation some ways they can help to keep the Earth safe, clean and healthy. This will be a fun learning experience and a great conversation forum.
  • Specials- Introduce Fables on Class dojo, teach fables are stories that feature animals as characters behaving like human beings. A video will be posted in google classroom for children to watch(The Lion and the Mouse) Lesson learned from this fable is that it is always good to get along with everyone. Every act of kindness is a sign of maturity and understanding, for you never know where your kindness will lead you and you may need it in return. For fun, children can illustrate their favorite part and share on google classroom.
  • Zoom Conferences: We will revisit this idea, and I will update parents moving forward. Have a blessed week and stay safe everyone!
