Leadership Newsletter

Dear Parents & Guardians,

We hope this letter finds you well. Here are some updates about upcoming events at Our Lady’s Catholic Academy.

Spirit Week

Monday, May 15 – Friday, May 19

Next week, our final big fundraiser for our eighth grade class begins. During Spirit Week, students are able to dress down in different themes every day, ending with Pajama Day on Friday, May 19. Participation is $10 for the week, or $2 per individual day. 100% of the money raised will go toward expenses for the Senior Trip.

Pajama Party

Friday, May 19: 4 PM – 7 PM

Rockaway Blvd. Campus – Grades K-3

Our final dance of the year is for Grades K-3 and will have a Pajama Party theme. Snacks and drinks will be sold. Look for the permission slip to go home today.

Home Academy Association Meeting

Wednesday, May 17: 6:30 PM – 7:00 PM

Rockaway Blvd. Campus Auditorium

Our final Home Academy Association Meeting will cover proposed changes to the 2017-2018 Family Handbook. We will be looking for parent input before the handbooks are finalized, so bring your best ideas with you! Light refreshments will be served.

First Holy Communion

Saturday, May 20: 5 PM

Saint Teresa of Avila Church

Forty children from OLCA and our parish will receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time on Saturday, May 20. All parents and students are encouraged to attend this special event.

Spring Shows & Raffle Drawings

128th Street Campus: Monday, May 22 – 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Rockaway Blvd. Campus: Wednesday, May 24 – 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM

As always, this year’s Spring Shows are free to attend. All classes will be performing, as well as Beginner and Experienced Band. Please check your child’s homeroom page on the website for the evening’s attire.

For the first time, we will be doing our Spring Raffle Drawing at the Spring Shows, with winners at each campus. We are also raffling off a Nintendo Switch at each Spring Show. Raffles can be purchased for the Switch beginning Monday, May 15 at both campuses. To be eligible for the Spring Raffle prizes, please be sure to submit your raffle tickets by the morning of your campus Spring Show!

Registration Update

Registration continues to outpace last year’s rate by a significant margin. We will be announcing Waiting Lists for several grades in the coming days, as we post our “Seats Left” signs at both buildings. To guarantee a seat for 2017-2018, especially in grades 1-6, be sure to re-register as soon as possible!

Summer Brainstorm

Registration has also begun for our annual Summer Brainstorm program, which is open to all students entering Grades N-9 in 2017-2018. This year, the program runs from Wednesday, July 5 through Friday, July 28. Early Drop-off and Extended Day services will be available. Check with your campus office for registration forms and additional information.

June 2017

Looking ahead to June, we will be celebrating the service of our Crossing Guards and Security Guards as the month begins. All grades from Nursery to 8th Grade will take final exams in the major subject areas, and Grades 4 and 8 will take the NYS Science Exam. We will have our closing school liturgy, our second graders will receive Honors for the first time, our Nursery and Pre-Kindergarten classes will step up to the next grade, and both our Kindergarteners and Eighth Graders will graduate.

As we enter the final stretch of the school year, we again express our gratitude for the partnership and support we receive from our school families. It remains a great privilege to be entrusted with the care of your children.

Sincerely in Christ,

Mr. Kevin John Coyne & Mrs. Debra Eisenbraun

Principal & Assistant Principal
